It’s a difficult reality to digest. Every night, disadvantaged children throughout Lakeland go to bed hungry. Whether due to challenging home lives or even homelessness, there are children in our community whose only meals come from their school’s cafeteria. Not only are they falling asleep with empty stomachs, but often they must endure the entire weekend without a proper meal.
Where is Help Coming From?
In Lakeland, businesses, ministries, concerned parents and citizens have united in an effort to support these children with the most basic of necessities. Since 2011 non-profit KidsPACK has been on a mission to ensure that no child goes hungry. Each week, volunteers in three counties help kidsPACK in their mission to show children compassion by assembling and distributing backpacks filled with provisions for their weekend. This outstanding organization also provides children with adequate clothing for school and play.
In it’s first year kidsPACK served 449 children in 31 Polk County public schools. Since then, the organization’s efforts have expanded into Hillsborough and Hardee counties serving 73 different schools and over 1,700 students. This important initiative is moving forward rapidly to serve more children.
kidsPACK objectives:
To provide children an opportunity…
- To have days free of hunger.
- To encourage education and enhance abilities.
- To be clothed with dignity
- To have shelter and security
- To experience the kind and compassionate heart of a giver
